Why Cognitive Hypnotherapy? And how does it work?

A member of the British Psychological Society, NHS trust association and National council of hypnotherapy, Lubna works closely with patients with a variety of psychological problems including depression, weight control and phobias.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy is a modern psychological and neuro-scientific approach that actually is helping to move therapy forward and aids us in our quest for wellbeing!

  • Do you know that almost 90% of your behaviour is unconsciously carried out?
  • Do you realise that while you are consciously paying attention to just 7 things, your unconscious is aware of 11 million (Miller 1956)
  • Therefore the problematic behaviour you wish to change and negative thought pattern you experience must be understood both consciously and unconsciously before it can be transformed
  • What is perception? In a recent study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (Vol. 102, No. 28, pages 9,978-9,983), Dr Raz gave eight participants post hypnotic suggestions who were hypnotized to see the effect of their cognitive processes in an experiment designed to explore the strop effect, the hypnotised participants were far more quicker and successful in seeing the colour rather than getting confused with the word that was written as a colour, neuroscience is now unlocking how hypnosis can influence your perception and awareness Raz, 2004b; Raz & Buhle, 2006; Raz, Fan, & Posner, 2005; Raz et al., 2003b; Raz, Shapiro, Fan, & Posner, 2002;. This is vital in moving therapy forward because mental disorders such as depression and phobias are mental problems to do with individuals and their perception of reality. In fact all memories and perception of reality is subjective not objective.
  • We focus on the EMOTIONAL root of your problem and subsequent thoughts that communicate this in order to transform the problematic behaviour
  • Have you ever felt emotionally hijacked in certain situations in your life? People don't tend to think "I am panicking" they just 'do'panic and afterwards think "I panicked". Our minds and bodies experience emotional data before processing any other kind of data and this is because of our emotional limbic system is an older part of the brain than the cortex that coordinates logic and language. Cognitive hypnotherapy uses time line therapy to understand the significant emotional events connected to people's problems and how they relate to perceiving the world around them, we use this technique to also transform negative emotional responses to positive ones.

Therapies - Cognitive hypnotherapy utilises time line therapy, where clients can emotionally transform past negative events to affect their present emotional being. In 2001, the British Medical Journal published a study carried out by Professor Leonard Leibovici. He divided hospitals case histories in two random piles. Names in one stack were prayed for, while the others were not. The group prayed for was found to have a reduced rate of fever, shorter stay at hospital and lower mortality rates. Except for- these patients had been discharged TEN years earlier! The healing power of consciousness and POSITIVE intention appears to be independent of time as well as space.

WordWeavingTM - Cognitive hypnotherapists are trained by the renowned Quest Institute. Our professional training is very different to most Hypnotherapists. WordWeavingTM - It is a unique piece of therapeutic intervention we use with our clients when in a relaxed and meditative state. We do not use scripts for smokers, depression and psychological problems. We recognise your individual problem, past and present. We work with our clients to create positive and individually tailored post hypnotic suggestions, aimed to make the unconscious and conscious work together in harmony, changing and transforming negative behaviour and emotion.

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) - EFT is an emotional, needle free version of acupuncture that is based on new discoveries regarding the connection between our body's subtle energies, emotions, and health. It is sometimes widely known as 'tapping'.

Neuro Linguist Programming (NLP) - Neuro refers to how the mind and body interact. Linguistic refers to the insights into a person's thinking that can be obtained by careful attention to their use of language. Programming refers to the study of how we think as individuals and collectively and what behavioural patterns or 'programmes' people use in their daily lives. For example how often do you consciously think of how to drive your car, tie a shoelace or brush your teeth? Therefore sophisticated behaviour such as phobic responses, learning and addiction are systematic programmes which are largely out of our awareness. It is your perception of how you interpret your reality that leads to how you behave rather than reality itself.

Life Coaching Project You - Project You is a process with a series of steps that are adapted to fit your needs. Those steps are designed to achieve several things:

1. Identify any limits your life has led you to believe are true and show you how to get rid of them. It will be explained to you how our beliefs aren't true, they're things the brain uses to help make sense of the world which we mistake for the truth of things. Our minds are plastic - they're constantly changing. Understanding the nature of this plasticity means that changes in the way we think doesn't have to take long to achieve.

2. Identify the things about yourself that need to be utilized for you to be able to create flow, and teach you how to do it.

3. Assist you in identifying a direction in your life that your use of flow will create for you; a goal that is completely right for you. If you've been looking for something to make that vital difference to your life contact me and let's discuss your needs in Project You.

Eye movement integration (EMI) - Eye Movement Integration (EMI) is based in part on the research by Milton H. Erickson, M.D who furthered the work by Robert Dilts at the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1977 on eye movements and brain processing. Their work has been used clinically to treat stress, anxiety and people who suffer from PSTD.
